Sarah S. MacLaughlin
Sarah MacLaughlin, LSW, is Senior Writer working with HealthySteps and the Parenting Resources at ZERO TO THREE. Sarah has worked with children and families in a variety of educational, training and support settings for over 20 years.
Sarah MacLaughlin works on the HealthySteps team and writes articles and other content for the Parenting Resources department. Sarah is a licensed social worker and parent educator who has previously worked with preschoolers, foster and adoptive families, and court-mandated parents. She is author of the award-winning book, What Not to Say: Tools for Talking with Young Children (Bay Island Books, 2010). Her degree in Women’s Studies and background in early childhood education inform her attachment focused, emotionally competent approach. Sarah helps parents and professionals see the bigger picture when it comes to child behavior, and uses the latest science to provide a deeper understanding of brain function and developmental norms. Sarah serves on the leadership team of the Maine Resilience Building Network (MRBN) which promotes efforts across service fields to bring awareness about resilience and protective factors for children of all ages. She is also Mom to a young son who gives her plenty of opportunities to take her own advice.
