Promoting Literacy And language with Your child

You can help your child learn to read and write by sharing stories with her. Stories help your child learn new words and ideas. Your child also likes to share stories with you. When you listen to your child’s stories, you tell her she is important to you.

Here’s what you can do:

  • Think about a special time you have had with your child. Tell your child that story. Even babies love to hear these stories.

  • Tell your child’s teacher her favorite story. If you tape record yourself telling the story, your child can hear it even when you are not with her.
