From Our Leadership
This year marks a milestone for ZERO TO THREE - 40 years of building connections to improve the lives of infants, toddlers, and their families. And we couldn’t do it without you.
We are tremendously grateful. We know the millions of infants, toddlers, families, professionals and policymakers we reach each year are too. You are true baby champions.
Our accomplishments are yours - we hope you are proud of what we have accomplished together on behalf of infants and toddlers.
Your generosity is critical to our continued success. Help us achieve our mission of 40 years: to ensure that all babies and toddlers have a strong start in life.
Together, we can bring a spark and encourage bright connections for all infants, toddlers and their families.
HealthySteps is Growing
ZERO TO THREE is growing HealthySteps, a unique, proven pediatric primary care program committed to healthy early child development and effective parenting. A child development professional, known as a HealthySteps Specialist connects with families during pediatric well visits as part of the primary care team.
The HealthySteps National Network now spans 119 pediatric practices in 15 states, Washington, DC and Puerto Rico and serves over 35,000 children a year. This represents a 45% growth rate in the number of sites since ZERO TO THREE took on HealthySteps in 2015.
HealthySteps has significantly positive outcomes for children, their families, and the physicians and practices that serve them. With recently approved grants from the Robin Hood Foundation and the Duke Endowment, HealthySteps will add additional sites in New York City and Guilford County, NC.
ZERO TO THREE and the Bezos Family Foundation conducted a national Parent Survey: Tuning In: Parents of Young Children Speak Up About What They Think, Know and Need. This large-scale research effort examined parenthood from the perspective of Millennial and Generation X parents.
In order to meet the needs of parents directly and those who support them, ZERO TO THREE created a range of assets, including infographics, fact sheets and articles, and videos, to communicate key findings on the topics that were of greatest interest, as identified through our research. Resources include The Daddy Factor, The “Missing· First Year, and The Expectation Gap.

Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Convening
With generous support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Irving B. Harris Foundation, ZERO TO THREE convened 10 state teams (Alaska, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Virginia), along with expert contributors, national organizations, health policy and managed care organizations, to identify state strategies for aligning health care financing policy, with infant and early childhood mental health practice. State teams were well balanced and influential, bringing together key leadership in various sectors of state government and/or the private sector including the Medicaid Director and a currently practicing mental health clinician. ZERO TO THREE continues to provide technical assistance to these state teams to expand access to early childhood mental health services.
Our Financials In Support of Our Mission
To ensure that all babies and toddlers have a strong start in life.
A society that has the knowledge and will to support all infants and toddlers in reaching their full potential.
ZERO TO THREE works in many ways to support parents, professionals, and policymakers. Our nation’s prosperity is jeopardized when the development of babies and toddlers is compromised. Together we can make a difference!
