ZERO TO THREE’s Matthew Melmed Receives 2018 Whole Child Award for Visionary Leadership

The Simms/Mann Institute has recognized ZERO TO THREE Executive Director Matthew Melmed with the 2018 Whole Child Award for Visionary Leadership

This award recognizes individuals who have made a “significant, tangible, and lasting impact” on children for a sustained period, who “exhibit strong passion and commitment” to the whole child movement, and who exhibit “a high degree of personal integrity.” The award will be made at the annual Simms/Mann Institute Think Tank in Los Angeles on May 2.

The Whole Child Awards were launched in 2015 to honor a medical professional focused on pursuing a whole-child approach in caring for children and their families. This year, the Simms/Mann Institute expanded the Whole Child Awards to honor extraordinary individuals from a variety of sectors – specifically, individuals who have made a significant impact in the zero-to-three space. Melmed’s award is for his visionary leadership in the early childhood field. He was nominated for this recognition by ZERO TO THREE Board Members and staff.

In the past, the Whole Child Award was made to one individual on an annual basis. This year three awards are being granted and ZERO TO THREE Board Member Andrew Meltzoff, along with his Co-director of the Institute for Learning and Brain Sciences at the University of Washington Pat Kuhl, have received the 2018 Whole Child “Community” Award. This is a wonderful recognition for their groundbreaking research in early childhood development and wide dissemination for practical uses in the community.

The Simms/Mann Institute develops and implements innovative programs and resources to address the complex challenges of the 21st century. The Institute seeks to empower professionals and individuals alike to make informed decisions and personalized choices by promoting the exploration, cross-fertilization, and dissemination of cutting-edge research and best practices in the fields of education and medicine.
