The Nevada Registry: A Path to Brighter Futures
The Nevada Registry, a career development, recognition and data collection system capturing important data about the Early Childhood Workforce, aims to help raise the status of the profession by promoting a well-trained, educated, supported and fairly compensated workforce.
The Registry is just one of the statewide efforts geared toward reducing staff turnover, increasing wages, heightening professionalism and increasing advancement opportunities for early childhood professionals. The Registry collects, validates and warehouses the professional and educational achievements of early childhood educators throughout the state and highlights those accomplishments through Career Ladder placement. A single point of access for early childhood professionals, the Registry provides professional development planning tools, including an online Professional Development Plan, and hosts a comprehensive website containing an online calendar of approved trainings, an industry-related blog, statewide job board, and community resources/information. The Registry also operates the statewide training approval system for all informal, community-based training in the state.
Through the Registry’s work, the state of Nevada envisions that early care and education professionals will be empowered, well-educated, highly-skilled, valued, respected, and equitably compensated. The Registry also works to support and empower early care and education professionals in Nevada to promote high quality Early Care and Education through recognition, professional development and educational growth.
In April of 2009, participation with The Nevada Registry was adopted into State Child Care Licensing regulations (R112-06 and R001-09) for all early childhood educators working in licensed child care settings. Mandatory participation was fully phased-in as of December 31, 2012, positioning the Registry to collect and provide a vast amount of essential, and previously unavailable, data on the early childhood workforce in Nevada that can now be used to inform the work of stakeholders and policy makers, as well as helping to direct decisions regarding future funding and program development.
The Registry has experienced much growth over the years since its adoption into State Child Care Licensing regulations and has 6,843 active members as of September 2018. The Registry maintains an active system to get a closer look at each different career ladder level, including the number of participants in each ladder, and their subsequent level of experience and education. Of the 6,843 active members, 22% have an associate degree or higher (in any field of study).
As a member of the National Workforce Registry Alliance, as well as being PER approved, the Registry is funded through the Federal Child Care and Development Fund – Quality Improvement Dollars and is administered through a contract with the Washoe County School District.
The Registry continues to be a rich resource for early childhood professionals, including center directors, lead and assistant teachers, family home care providers, trainers, higher education faculty and more.
