A Champion for Babies Needs Your Help
Stand with ZERO TO THREE Fellow Yiğit Aksakoğlu to ensure he is not imprisoned for life.
Last year we reached out to you with a request for support for ZERO TO THREE Fellow and champion for babies Yiğit Aksakoğlu, who at the time was being held in solitary confinement at Silivri Prison in the Istanbul province of Turkey.
Yiğit’s arrest stems from his peaceful participation in civil disobedience in the Gezi Park protests in 2013 and according to Amnesty International, is “wrongly accused” of attempting to overthrow the government. At the time of his arrest, Yiğit was working for the Bernard van Leer Foundation, a global philanthropy that seeks to improve opportunities for socially and economically disadvantaged young children.
Your calls were heard and Yigit was released on probation. However, the fight is not over.
We just received an urgent plea on Yigit’s behalf. The prosecutor announced a request for life imprisonment without parole. The court will be announcing their decision in a hearing on Feb. 18.
Yigit’s only chance at freedom is public pressure. Help us stand up for his rights by taking the following actions today.
Email the following two officials to demand Yigit’s freedom:
Minister Abdülhamit Gül
Minister of Justice of the Republic of Turkey
U.S. Ambassador Serdar Kiliç
Embassy of the Republic of Turkey
