Young girl with mother at pediatrician visit

Stefanie Powers, Editor

This issue of the ZERO TO THREE Journal is landing in your inbox or your mailbox at a unique time in history. We are nearly 6 months into a world-wide pandemic that has drastically changed how we live and work. We are also facing urgent concerns about racism, justice, and equity following horrific stories of violence against people of color. Facing harmful health and economic disparities, so many children and families, along with those who care for them, are hurting. As we are navigating these concerns, we want to learn from you, our readers, about the issues, challenges, and success stories that you are experiencing, or would like us to explore further in future issues of the ZERO TO THREE Journal. Please let us hear from you by emailing the editor at spowers@zerotothree.org.

In January, before we heard of COVID-19 or lived with the concept of “social distancing,” we asked ZERO TO THREE Members to share their stories of working together to overcome obstacles or discover new pathways to reach the noble goal of better serving young children and families. A handful of those stories are presented here in the 10th annual issue of Stories From the Field, and we will be sharing more of them in the issues to come throughout this year. We also explore the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on infants and toddlers with some Practical Tips and Tools for supporting young children during these unsettling times.

ZERO TO THREE, now more than ever, is working to ensure our most vulnerable children and families—as well as the adults who care for them and the professionals who support them—have the resources they need to address the pressing issues before us. Please regularly visit our website, www.zerotothree.org, for updates and ways to be involved. If you are a ZERO TO THREE Member, the Member Connect Discussion Boards have been a rich source of information sharing and support (www.zerotothree.org/membership). Be sure to save the dates for the virtual ZERO TO THREE Annual Conference, a 5-day event beginning on October 5 and running through October 9. Pre-Conference Forums will take place between September 22 and October 1. Registration information is available at annualconference.zerotothree.org.
