Building a Better Future

WendyAnn credits Early Head Start with helping her children thrive socially and academically. It's the support that empowered her to return to school and lead change in her community.

WendyAnn F.’s days are full of balancing parenting her children and work. But she’s not doing it alone.  Her family’s path has been shaped by one powerful support system: Early Head Start.

A Lifeline When It Was Needed Most

At a time when she needed support, WendyAnn found a home visiting program that offered her and her children opportunities to learn and also engage with other families. In addition, through Early Head Start, she received help navigating basic needs like diapers, housing, and food. She also found resources to help grow into the confident, capable mother she is today.

Learning, Socializing, and Succeeding

Each of WendyAnn’s children has participated in Early Head Start. The results are clear.

My kids benefited so much from the socialization. It helped with their vocabulary, their confidence, and prepared them for kindergarten in every way.

Early Head Start didn’t just help her children, it empowered WendyAnn, too. She learned how to support their development, manage stress, and build a strong, nurturing home. Inspired by this journey, she returned to school to earn her degree, determined to help other families access the same opportunities.

Leading for Change

Now, WendyAnn is using her voice to make a difference. She serves on her local Early Head Start Policy Council, the Idaho Head Start Association Board, the Region X Board, and the National Head Start Association Board.

I’m passionate about making sure every family has what they need to help their children be successful.

As she begins her career as a teacher, WendyAnn remains focused on her ultimate goal: to help other children and families thrive, just like hers did.
