ZERO TO THREE Fellow and champion for babies Yiğit Aksakoğlu was held in solitary confinement at Silivri Prison in the Istanbul province of Turkey.
Yiğit’s arrest stemmed from his peaceful participation in civil disobedience in the Gezi Park protests in 2013 and, according to Amnesty International, was “wrongly accused” of attempting to overthrow the government. At the time of his arrest, Yiğit was working for the Bernard van Leer Foundation, a global philanthropy that seeks to improve opportunities for socially and economically disadvantaged young children.
Yiğit shared his heartfelt message of gratitude for the outpour of love and support from the ZERO TO THREE community in pursuit of justice and his release.
