Tax Smart Strategies

There are simple, easy ways to make gifts to ZERO TO THREE now that may help reduce your taxable income.

IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions

Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs), also known as IRA Charitable Rollovers, are the savviest way for individuals age 70½ or older to use their IRAs to maximize their charitable impact. Tax law allows you to use your required minimum distribution to support ZERO TO THREE, bypassing your gross income.

Advantages

  • Supports ZERO TO THREE’s work for babies and families
  • May keep you in a lower tax bracket
  • More of your hard-earned savings avoid taxes while you help babies thrive

First Step: Contact your IRA manager to request a distribution be made directly to ZERO TO THREE. Request that your gift be identified with your name and address.

Gifts of Stock

Giving stocks, mutual funds or other securities directly to ZERO TO THREE is another way to advance the mission. You can transfer a stock gift directly from your account to ZERO TO THREE.

 Advantages

  • May reduce your capital gains taxes
  • Does not take money out of your bank account
  • Donors generally incur the greatest tax benefit when donating appreciated stock that has been held for more than a year

First Step: Contact Susan McCullough at (202) 857-2667 or [email protected] for information to give to your broker.

ZERO TO THREE encourages supporters to seek the advice of legal and financial advisors in matters relating to their gifts and the resulting tax and estate planning consequences.
