Coaching is an interaction style used to build the capacity of parents and other caregivers to promote child learning and development within and across typical routines and caregiving contexts. This one-hour virtual event will focus on the background and rationale for the use of coaching by early intervention providers, Early Head Start and Head Start home visitors, and others who work closely with parents/caregivers. The use of coaching fosters social-emotional well-being by supporting the parent’s responsiveness to the child in ways that have been shown to result in positive developmental outcomes.

In this first session we listed the benefits of using a coaching approach with parents and caregivers of young children, described an evidence-based definition of coaching in early childhood, and discussed the research supporting coaching in the context of natural learning environments when working with families of children 0-3 years of age.
