Centering Babies and the Adults Who Care for Them: States Explore Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Financing and Policy

Centering Babies and the Adults Who Care for Them: States Explore Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Financing and Policy, a new resource from the ZERO TO THREE Policy Center, provides a high-level summary of the most recent meeting in Fall of 2023 of the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health (IECMH) Financing Policy Project states.

This overview shares examples of the core practices and policies that are essential for embedding IECMH into child and family serving systems and draws attention to progress made by states that have been part of this work. It outlines goals for those that are just beginning, summarizes “sticky issues,” and calls out the need to confront systemic racism, and concludes with lessons learned as inspiration for continued progress.

Use this resource to:

  • Learn how other states are advancing infant and early childhood mental health policy and financing.
  • Share lessons learned with state policymakers and advocates, your state Infant Mental Health association or other stakeholder groups interested in advancing IECMH policy.
  • Reach out to state children’s advocates to strengthen their children’s mental health agenda.
  • Offer inspiration and hope for continued advancement of IECMH policy and financing strategies.
