Kinship caregivers (grandparents, aunts, uncles, older cousins and siblings, family friends) do the important job of raising children when parents cannot. There are many reasons family members take on this role, including parental substance use, incarceration, military deployment, severe disability, deportation, teen pregnancy, or death.
