A licensed child clinical psychologist and assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Allison Smith, PhD, specializes in infant and early childhood mental health, trauma-informed care and cross-sector workforce development.
Her work focuses on traumatic stress prevention and recovery across the settings where children live, play and learn, while her clinical practice centers on treating early childhood traumatic stress and conducting psychological evaluations for neurodevelopmental conditions. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, systems-level intervention and implementation practice, she works to strengthen trauma-informed professional practices and the community systems that support children and families.
Dr. Smith holds national roster status in Child-Parent Psychotherapy and is certified in several evidence-based models, including Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy-Toddler and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She is also part of the Arkansas Building Effective Services for Trauma program, a statewide trauma-focused training initiative centered on improving outcomes for children and families exposed to traumatic events.
