Jane Duer

Early Intervention Coordinator & Project Launch Director, Alabama Department of Mental Health

Jane Duer, M.Ed., is a ZERO TO THREE Fellow. She is currently an Early Intervention Coordinator & Project Launch Director for the Alabama Department of Mental Health.

Ms. Duer has over 25 years’ experience in Early Intervention. In her role as EI Coordinator, she has oversight of twenty-four local EI programs, which includes providing workforce professional development and ensuring compliance with state and federal EI regulations and policies. In addition, Ms. Duer is Director for Alabama’s Project LAUNCH, which is a five-year cooperative grant funded by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). In her early career, she worked as a teacher in a preschool special education class within a public school system and in a private, faith-based preschool special needs classroom. Ms. Duer spent 21 years at Children’s of Alabama, a pediatric medical center, in various positions including Child Life Teacher with in-patient medically fragile infants through preschool age and then as the Early Intervention Program Teacher and Manager. Ms. Duer graduated from Auburn University with her Bachelor’s degree in General Speech Communications and her Master’s degree in Education, with teacher certification in Early Childhood Special Education. In addition to being a professional advocate for young children with special needs and their families, Ms. Duer and her husband, Chuck, are the parents of Brent who is a young adult with developmental disabilities. They have also been foster parents.
