Kate Wasserman, MSW, is a ZERO TO THREE Fellow. She is currently Director of Parent, Infant and Early Childhood (PIEC) Program at the Institute for Innovation and Implementation at the University of Maryland School of Social Work.
As Program Director for PIEC at the Institute for Innovation and Implementation, Ms. Wasserman serves as the Project Director for BRIDGE, a SAMHSA-funded system of care grant in Southern Maryland, unique for its sole focus in building an early childhood workforce and infrastructure through providing training, coaching, and technical assistance. Ms. Wasserman is a licensed mental health clinician with a dedicated focus in early childhood and maternal mental health with expertise in public health policy, program development, and direct service perspective to projects. She is a National Trainer of the Fussy Baby Network and served as lead trainer for Maryland’s Race to the Top and Project LAUNCH workforce developmental grants, training primary care providers, mental health consultants, and home visitors on trauma-informed, family-focused infant mental health competencies. Ms. Wasserman has a master’s degree from the University of Maryland’s School of Social Work, where she focused on maternal and child mental health. She previously held key roles in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland, providing outpatient mental health treatment for young children and their families while launching the state’s first HealthySteps integrated care site. Additionally, she served as the Family Support Counselor in the Department of Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins Harriet Lane Clinic, where she founded the Working Group on Intimate Partner Violence. Ms. Wasserman is a member of the Maryland Early Childhood Mental Health Steering Committee, the Governor’s Family Violence Council as well as the Mayor’s Domestic Violence Coordinating Committee.
