Mike Sherman PsyD

Director of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Strategy and Coordination
“All development occurs in the context of relationships. This applies to everything human… the development of babies, parents, professionals, practices, programs and policies.”

What the mission means to Mike

“There is no such thing as a baby… there is a baby and someone.” – D.W. Winnicott

Ensuring that all babies and toddlers have a strong start in life means that the focus of our interventions is not just the baby… or just the parent… or just the professional. The focus is the relationships that connect young children and their caregivers and provide the foundation and scaffolding for their development.

Professional background

A licensed clinical psychologist and NAPA/UC Davis Infant-Parent Mental Health fellow, Dr. Mike Sherman has expert training and experience in the field of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health (IECMH).

For more than 20 years, he has worked at the nexus of community mental health and child welfare programs, including direct service provision, supervision, training, consulting, program development and administration. He is endorsed as an IECMH Clinical Mentor (I/ECMH-C) and is dedicated to supporting the application of reflective practice across a range of child and family serving fields.

Future vision

Mike is invested in supporting the integration of the IECMH Guiding Principles across ZERO TO THREE’s areas of focus, while continuing to strengthen relational, reflective, and trauma-responsive practices across our work, both internally and in partnership with the organizations and communities we support.
