Trenna Valado

Senior Director, Research & Evaluation

Trenna Valado, PhD, is the Senior Director of Research and Evaluation for ZERO TO THREE, overseeing internal and external evaluation activities for numerous projects throughout the organization.

Dr. Valado has more than 20 years of experience in research and evaluation of programs and policies that affect the well-being of vulnerable children, youth, and families. She has expertise in quantitative and qualitative research design, data collection and analysis, performance measurement, benchmarking, and continuous quality improvement (CQI). She has effectively implemented process and outcome evaluations on a wide array of topics, including child trauma, child mental health, home visiting, benefits enrollment, substance abuse, drug treatment, co-occurring disorders, homelessness, dropout prevention, and systems integration. She has a particular passion for presenting data in accessible formats and helping program staff use evaluation results to improve their work.

Since joining ZERO TO THREE, Dr. Valado has led evaluations for several projects, including: the National Center on Early Childhood Development, Teaching, and Learning (NC ECDTL); the Early Head Start National Resource Center (EHS NRC); the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Technical Assistance Coordinating Center (MIECHV TACC); and the HealthySteps National Office. She previously worked on evaluations of the Children’s Mental Health Initiative (CMHI), the Child Traumatic Stress Initiative (NCTSI), and the Social Services Block Grant (SSBG).

She received her Ph.D. in applied anthropology from the University of Arizona.
