News from the Academy of ZERO TO THREE Fellows
February 2023

Dear ZERO TO THREE Fellows,

THANK YOU and CONGRATULATIONS!!

Through our collective effort and your generosity, the 2023 GIVE BACK, GO FORWARD Campaign was a huge success, exceeding our goal, raising over $29,000!

Over the coming year, your Academy will continue to support collaborative Policy, Advocacy, and Research (PAR) Awards as well as equitable access to the ZERO TO THREE Fellowship, nationally and internationally. We will continue to build on this past year’s Community Platform launch, promote Fellows’ community-building efforts at various professional conferences, and organize the upcoming Academy Retreat. Be on the lookout for all the exciting events to come and stay in touch and connected!

    FELLOWS WE NEED YOUR SERVICE!

Are you looking for a way to give back?  Please consider joining the Academy of Fellows Council. The current Council is grateful to Aimee Hilado and Ann Chu who are giving back to our community by taking over the co-chair positions. Other positions on the Council that need new faces include the Communications Coordinator and the Policy, Advocacy, and Research Coordinator overseeing the collaboration awards.

Fellows have a variety of ways to be involved other than Council positions. Help nurture and support the Fellows Community Platform, created for us to stay connected. We would love to create a program and policy-focused mentorship program, similar to the one for clinical-focused Fellows, for the 2022-24 Fellowship class, and have an Academy Fellow lead this initiative.

Another idea is to organize learning opportunities “For Fellows by Fellows.” These could be virtual learning webinars in which Fellows from across our broad and diverse network lead presentations on compelling topics of interest for the Fellows’ community.

And most immediately, we need volunteers to work with the Academy Council to plan the Coming Together Fellows Retreat during the week of October 16, 2023, in Washington, DC. We would love to hear your ideas to create a meaningful and impactful retreat experience.

Please consider how you would like to be actively engaged with the important work of the ZERO TO THREE Academy Council.  Remember, many hands make light work!

Please reach out to Mary Ellen Warren, current co-chair, with questions – maryellen.warren@uscmed.sc.edu

2023 Policy, Advocacy and Research (PAR) Collaboration Awards

The Academy Fellows Council is happy to announce the 2023 PAR Collaboration Award goes to three Fellows, all from the 2020-22 Fellowship Class: Alison Peak (Nashville TN), Jennifer Mitchell (Salt Lake City, UT), and Shannon Bekman (Denver, CO). They were awarded $2,500 for their project, entitled Meeting the Need: A Three State Comparison of IECMH Workforce Development.

In summary, Colorado, Tennessee, and Utah have delivered state-wide IECMH workforce development projects designed to support the increase of quality clinical IECMH providers in each respective state. Utilizing modalities of Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), Facilitating Attuned Interactions (FAN), Diversity-Informed Tenets and others, have built considerable clinical infrastructure across our states. This PAR Collaboration project will compare the methods for initiating these programs, the implementation of the programs, and state efforts for sustainability. The project will further identify key activities to influence agency implementation of the respective modalities, retention of providers in clinical training programs, and consider key foundational meetings and activities that primed the pathway for these projects to be well received. Congratulations to Alison, Jennifer, and Shannon!

    ZERO TO THREE Highlights

    Diversifying Stories

We have joined forces with 26 leading national nonprofit organizations to create the Diverse Books for All Coalition. Together we are tackling a common challenge that has impeded children’s literacy for decades: the lack of high-quality, affordable books by and about diverse races and cultures. I’m proud that we are part of this important coalition with leadership from First Book and funding support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Our efforts will help provide more diverse books for babies and toddlers nationwide!
