A policy blueprint for putting babies, toddlers and families first.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the world around us, including the world our youngest children are growing up in. The technology is developing faster than the infrastructure needed to provide protections.
That’s why ZERO TO THREE, in partnership with Capita, developed Young Children, Families, and the Age of AI: Principles for Policy. Grounded in the science of early childhood development, this policy blueprint offers a path forward for policymakers and other leaders to ensure AI serves children, strengthens families and supports their well-being.
Organized around three guiding principles — Embrace the Wonder, Address the Worry, and Share the Dividend — the policy principles offer a blueprint for ensuring that AI advances human flourishing and nurturing relationships beginning in the earliest years of life.
The principles recognize AI’s potential to improve lives while calling for meaningful safeguards, greater transparency and accountability and policies that ensure the economic benefits of AI are broadly shared. From protecting human relationships and strengthening family economic security to giving parents and early childhood experts a voice in AI governance, the principles offer a vision for a future in which technological progress serves children, families and the common good.
