Here's how children learn about who they are and about their culture through stories.

PromotingLiteracy And language with Your child

Your child learns about her culture from you. When you tell her family stories, she learns your values and beliefs. You teach her about who she is and what she can be. Your child will want to learn how to read and write when she knows that it is important to you.

Here’s what you can do:

  • Share family stories. Tell your child about special events such as the day she was born or a favorite memory from your childhood.
  • Talk to your child’s teacher. Tell her about what you feel is important for your child to learn.
