Supporting Young Children in Military and Veteran Families

With an estimated 22 million veterans and active duty service members in the United States, many communities include families with military connections.

As the world responds to ongoing global crises, many military and veteran families with young children may be directly impacted. These events can bring uncertainty, stress, and change, whether through the possibility of deployment, extended time away, or the emotional toll of what is seen and heard in the news. Young children are especially sensitive to these experiences and may pick up on stress in their environment or react to frightening images and conversations.

Military-connected families bring unique strengths, values, and experiences, and they may also face distinct challenges that affect both caregivers and young children.

For professionals, this is an opportunity to better understand and support the needs of military-connected families. For families, it is a reminder that you are not alone in navigating these moments.

The ZERO TO THREE Military Family Projects team is proud to support both families and the professionals who serve them. We work to strengthen connections, increase awareness, and provide resources that help ensure babies and young children, along with those who care for them, have what they need to thrive.
